William H. Hannon Foundation Bolsters K-12 College Education Through Support of Arts Programs, Field Trips, and Tuition Assistance
Santa Monica, CA (June 2023) – Celebrating their 40th anniversary, The William H. Hannon Foundation announced 19 grants totaling $202,472 to schools and educational programs throughout Southern California. The grants will help the organizations provide scholarships and tuition relief for students in need, along with field trips, music and art programs, and more.
Supporting schools and students has been a priority for the William H. Hannon Foundation since its formation in 1983 by the late Catholic philanthropist, real estate developer, and namesake, William H. Hannon. Hannon, a graduate of Loyola High School who wanted to attend Loyola University (now Loyola Marymount University), but could not afford the tuition.
Hannon and his mother asked the President of Loyola University if they would admit him with the intention that he would pay back the university for his education once he got a job. He was admitted and graduated from Loyola University on what began as a handshake deal and would result in his lifelong dedication and support of his alma mater as well as numerous schools and nonprofits throughout the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
“From music programs to scholarships, these organizations are making a difference in the lives of thousands of young people every day. My late uncle never forgot the support he received, and we are proud to keep his legacy alive by paying it forward on his behalf,” said Kathleen Hannon Aikenhead, President of the William H. Hannon Foundation, Hannon’s niece and a member of the Foundation’s Board of Directors since its inception.
